As education costs continue to increase from one year to the next it is becoming increasingly difficult to find the money necessary for a college education and a lot of students spend more time worrying about raising the funds needed than they do working at their studies. If this was not bad enough all too many students discover that once they have graduated they are left with so much loan debt that it quite simply drags them down and will probably take years to repay. If this paints a grim picture then for a lot of students the problem of funding their education is magnified by a requirement to raise the necessary money without the availability of a cosigner to their loans.

These days college funding is not simply a matter of looking to a single source of finance for the majority of students but is a matter of putting together a portfolio of funds from a variety of different sources.

The first action for all students must be to try to find scholarships and grants. A lot of students simply overlook this source of essentially free money altogether and yet you would be surprised at just how many scholarships and grants are available today. In a lot of cases of course the sums of money available are reasonably small but nonetheless can be extremely helpful as a part of your total funding plan.

The next port of call ought to be federal loan funding through schemes such as Perkins and Stafford loans which you can get as both unsubsidized and subsidized loans. Perkins loans particularly attractive because of their relatively low interest rate but are also the most difficult loans to get and need a student to show particular financial need.

Unhappily at this point in spite of the fact that you will have begun to create your portfolio it is unlikely that it will provide you with sufficient money and you will now need to begin casting your net wider and will have two roads to follow.

If you can get the assistance and support of a guardian or parent then they can apply for a federal student PLUS loan to cover the shortfall between the funding which you have been able to obtain yourself and the overall cost of attending college. Student PLUS loans are subject to your parent or guardian having a reasonable credit rating but the requirements are not as strict as those which would be applied by a private lender.

If you do not have a parent or guardian you can turn to or simply decide to go it alone then you will need to obtain a loan from a private lender and exactly how simple that will be will depend to a large extent on your own credit history. In most cases lenders will be happy to grant you a loan if you have a good credit rating and will ask for a cosigner if you have no credit history against which they can make their lending decision or have a bad credit rating. Nonetheless, with a growing number of people with a bad credit rating today there is also a rising number of lenders who will grant loans without the requirement for a cosigner and so it is merely a question of shopping around.

A bad credit loan with no requirement for a cosigner will naturally cost you more than a standard good credit loan although as long as you take your time and shop around with care you will get a loan at a fair rather than exorbitant interest rate.

by Lorelei F

I have a term for people who love addicted people. I call them Second Hand Addicts because truthfully, although they do not actually take the drug, they are just as sick as the addicted person. And sometimes they don’t even know what their problem is.

In addition, I would go so far as to say that we addicts and codependents, only know two ways of living and the entire sphere of our existence lives in these ‘polar opposite’ ways of being. To clarify, Addicts and Second Hand Addicts either attack or defend, control or be controlled, manipulate or be manipulated, step-on or be stepped on. In short they are either the action- usually aggressive- or the reaction. Now this same phenomenon can be said to exist in all people to some extent, but with an addict (alcoholic) or codependent, action/reaction is about the only way we live. And I lump myself in both of these groups as a former codependent who has experienced the struggle with food addiction.

Now why do I say former codependent, and how could that be? Many of you therapists and 12-step program people will wonder about this term and think I am in denial to say it out loud. You are clear that ‘once a codependent, always a codependent.’ And truthfully I thought the same way previous to my taking of The Landmark Forum and other related courses. Previous to those courses, it was a long, hard struggle to erase my codependent tendencies and the struggle went on daily, weekly, monthly- despite the enormously beneficial presence of therapy and 12-step programs in my life. But I say former because I now live in a place where codependent/ addicted tendencies are virtually erased and do not show up in my life. And if once in a while some codependency creeps in, it comes and goes so quickly that the layman does not see it.

Now those of you in the recovery world balk because you know what it means to fight the endless battle against dangerous codependency in both the addict and the Second Hand Addict.

But the reason codependency can be erased with scarcely a trait in Landmark courses is because all Landmark Education courses cause people to put the past in the past. And all codependent traits have been created in such a person’s often sordid, dis-empowering pasts. And you should know that the tools of Landmark Education complete people’s pasts so powerfully that you would almost believe that past had never occurred.

I can only tell you from my experience what it is like. This year I struggled greatly with finances. I tried to add another job but did not get an interview for a whole year. Then in a landmark Course I put the past in the past. That week I had three interviews and I now have several possibilities for a job to choose from.

Now let me say that the things that I put in the past were largely blind-spots to me. No amount of the outsider (such as a therapist) looking in and telling me the problem could break through those blind spots. You could have written my issues in the sky on a clear, blue day and I would never have seen them. The only way I saw them was when I looked at myself in a new way- through a particular and powerful lens called Landmark Education.

And that is what the Landmark Forum does for people. It turns on a long burnt-out light bulb.

Now I speak to everyone, but particularly to the therapists and addiction specialists when I repeat, I did not see any of this and I would not see any of this, no matter what you said to me, without the technology of The Landmark Forum. And this is why you want to get your people as long as they are healthy of mind, into the course called The Landmark Forum. And you also want to take the course yourself. The Landmark Forum is for everyone, since everyone has a past. It is particularly for you who work with addiction because you have to experience it to recommend it, and you can’t in good conscience ignore this powerful tool for the people you help. So take The Landmark Forum, and send your people to it. Be sure, of course, that anyone you send is fit and healthy enough to accept the insights and memories he or she will encounter. Then go to my blog and let me know that you or someone else took The Landmark Forum. Even better yet, email me and give me the profound pleasure of signing you up for this powerful course myself, as it really makes my day to be involved as we all heal and grow… In fact, it’s why I do what I do.

A vacation in the Philippines is almost not fair- most tourists don’t have enough time to visit all the places they’d like, and definitely won’t have the time to explore the many attractions the Philippines holds. For those on a limited time schedule, there are a few attractions that shouldn’t be missed at all costs.

Tourists who haven’t been scuba diving or snorkeling should make a good effort to do so while on vacation in the Philippines. Both acts are highly revered as one of the major tourist attractions since the Philippine terrain is very scenic when it comes to the underwater world. Many types of fish and reefs thrive in Philippine waters, and make for great photo opportunities.

If a more extreme event is desired, there are many cliffs in which to go rock climbing on. Rock climbers from all around the world value Philippine cliffs, as they are situated on some of the most scenic property in the world. And because the Philippines has many types of terrain, beginners and experts alike will be able to find a challenge among the many cliffs decorating the land.

Many historic buildings are open to the public and are often great tourist attractions. Buildings such as the Manila Cathedral or the San Agustin Church show some of the best architecture designs in the Philippines. Young children probably won’t enjoy the trip as much as adults, but it serves as a great cultural and historic lesson to the younger children.

It just wouldn’t be a trip to the Philippines without a taste of the local food. Many types of seafood and local cultural favorites are available at the many markets. Manila in particular is a must-see if one is a food connoisseur. There are many different shops selling all types of food that is native to the Philippines- but be on the lookout for pickpockets and be sure to keep a close eye on the kids if applicable. It’s always good to stay protective of one’s belongings in big markets such as Manila.

When one sees the beaches that the Philippines possesses, they will finally see where the scenery for many postcards and gift cards comes from. The beaches at the Philippines are near perfect- with golden sands and crystal clear waters. The occasional palm tree and small addition of clouds in the atmosphere makes for a truly invigorating experience.

In Conclusion

A trip to the Philippines is going to be exciting no matter what attractions are visited, but the above topics are especially worthy of visiting if one is looking to get the most out of their vacation. If nothing else, be sure to visit the beaches- they are full of warm weather, light sands, and some of the bluest waters around!

Train horns have been used for over 50 years and are still used today. They provide loud warning signals to people, conductors, and animals. They are especially important when nearing a busy area. They are also used to pass signals between different train conductors, and other employees on the railroad. They consist of two main components: the diaphragm, and the nozzle piece. The N3 train horn was the first three chime horn offered.

Most people think that train horns are only for use on trains, as a warning signal. However there is a fairly large group of people who collect train horns. Their popularity is growing, due to the rarity of some older pieces. Its important for collectors to have the best train horns. People also use them on their own personal vehicles, such as trucks, boats, sport utility vehicles, and RV’s. They are a fun, and novelty collectible item.

Train horn kits can be easily purchased anywhere on the web, or through a dealer. Don’t expect to get one with a kids allowance though, these special horns can cost anywhere between $200-$1000+.

When installing your train horn its important to take the measurements and placement into consideration. An air compressor tank that is too small will not be sufficient to fuel your horn, and one that is too large could cause some serious problems with the horns and possibly a fatality. Many companies recommend that you use a 20 gallon tank or larger, depending on your horns requirements.

Personal train horns, and horns used on trains are bound to have functionality conflicts. Since the two main pieces are hollow, they make great homes for small creatures and insects. This interference will greatly impact the sound that is produced from your horn. While regular maintenance is necessary, it is also advisable to get your train horn repaired at a professional place if necessary. Collectible horns and everyday use horns have different repair and maintenance requirements, so make sure you know what you are doing before attempting anything on your own. For a fee you can see an antique dealer, or a professional train horn tuner to get your horn in perfect shape again.

Closing Comments

In the end, train horns are fun, functional, and a popular collectible item. There are tons of options to choose from, and many different designs.

by Terry Stanfield

Click fraud is a risk that goes along with doing any kind of pay per click advertising as part of your Search Engine Marketing strategy. Pay per click advertising can help you be sure that you’re getting some kind of return on your advertising investment because you’re only paying when someone clicks on your ad and goes to your site but not everyone clicking on your ads is interested in your products or services. Click fraud is when someone that has no interest in your products or services repeatedly clicks on your ad just to make you pay more money.

It sounds like something that petty and spiteful person would do to one another but click fraud can lead to huge advertising bills for companies who aren’t getting anything in return for that money.

Anyone that uses search engine optimization wants to advertise their website and try to get more traffic but the point of using search engine optimization is to reach your target market and get members of your target market to click on your website. Search engine marketing and search engine optimization are safer bets than pay per click advertising because of the high risk of click fraud that comes with pay per click advertising. The biggest search engines like Google and Yahoo have built automated click fraud management programs to try and combat the growing problem of click fraud but it still happens everyday to lots of companies.

A larger company might not notice the click fraud until they end up with an advertising bill that is three or four times higher than they expected. When that happens a click fraud management team from the ad company will step in and try to determine if click fraud is responsible but unfortunately the law hasn’t quite kept up with the changing technology when it comes to click fraud. There are several large click fraud cases that are still pending in the courts. Companies feel that they shouldn’t have to pay huge advertising bills as a result of click fraud and that the ad companies have a responsibility to create a click fraud management system to keep click fraud from happening and the ad companies feel that the companies are responsible for the costs incurred by click fraud.

Click fraud isn’t just done by a single person or a group of people sitting at their computers clicking on a company’s ad over and over. There are automated programs that are designed to click on an ad thousands of times per day which can mean an astronomical bill for companies without giving them any new business. The new click fraud management programs that are being rolled out by the major ad companies and search engines are alleviating some of the click fraud problem but click fraud will almost always be a risk when you’re doing pay per click advertising.

Search engine marketing with just plain old search engine optimization is a safer methods to drive traffic to your website although they may or may not drive as much traffic to your website as a few pay per click ads would. A combination of SEO and PPC with the right click fraud protection can be the a great strategy.

by KC Kudra

One of the most important activities you will engage in when going into business for yourself is setting up your home office. Your home office will be the place you conduct business, and while it can be in the corner of your kitchen, you will really want to find a spot where you are away from family activities and can have some privacy and silence while you work.

Size is not as important and functionality when setting up your nerve center. Your basic home office furniture will include a desk, chair, waste bin, Internet connection (if you business is online) and the usual office supplies.

Is There Enough Lighting Available?

Proper lighting is essential. You do not want to spend hours in a dimly lit work area, which can result in eyestrain, headaches, and blurred vision. Prolonged periods in inadequate light could lead to serious problems further on.

Electrical Outlets Should Be Considered

Take into consideration what appliances you will have in your workspace. Your computer system will require an outlet for your CPU, monitor, scanner, printer, speakers (sometimes), and other ancillary equipment you may have.

Is There Enough Ventilation?

All of that computer equipment needs to “breath” to remain cool and functioning properly. If you have ever, “fried” a computer you know how important it is to keep the fan clean and dust free.

Do you have telephone access?

More and more people are using their cellular telephones as their main telephones, but not always. If you are not on broadband Internet, you will need to have a landline in order to dialup your Internet Company. You can also use your cell phone to do it, but you will need to make a decision about telephone access prior to starting work. If you are not going the cell phone way, you will need to have a separate line for telephone and dialup.

It is also important that your clients can reach you. If your clients have to compete with your teenagers’ telephone habits, chances are they will call someone else. Make certain that this separate line is set up to receive phone calls while you are online. Most major telephone companies now offer that service. You may pay a few extra dollars a month for it, but it will pay for itself over the long haul.

What Type Of Internet Access Do You Have?

Most modern home offices will have a decent Internet connection - DSL or Broadband. Gone are the days when dialup access was sufficient, and while it can still be done, most home office business have a fast Internet connection. You may be already DSL-ready and only need to call your telephone company to get it started.

However, if you have a broadband connection you will also need cable access nearby where your computer workstation or desk is going to be for a convent hook up. If you do not have a cable outlet near by you will want to have one installed before you move into your new space. Most cable companies can help with this or you could use a do it yourself kit to accomplish this if you are handy around the house. You will want to make sure it is done right as a poor connection will hinder your productivity.

A third option if you are near a WiFi hotspot you could go wireless or you could also consider using a wireless card to hook into your main router and main broadband connection point. If you decide to go wireless make sure you properly secure your connection from prying eyes and encrypt it for further safety.

Really, a college credit card is an introduction to the world of credit cards and, even though a student could have experienced using a supplemental card on a parent’s credit card account, it is the first credit card which the student will have had in his own name.

In general terms college credit cards operate in precisely the same way as other credit cards but there are some differences which you have to know about. These differences arise because the credit card companies are taking something of a risk by extending credit to people who will generally not have any credit history and thus they need to protect themselves against the higher chance of debt on college credit cards.

The first major difference is that credit card companies require that a parent or guardian co-signs the student’s application for a card, so that the parent or guardian knows that the student is applying for a line of credit, and will also require that parent or guardian to stand as a guarantor on the account. In other words, should the student default on the card the parent or guardian will be legally liable to make good on any debt.

The second major difference with a college credit card is that the credit limit is generally set at a lower level than that seen on other credit cards and is typically set at between $500 and $1,000. This limit is also set at a reasonably low level because the card issuers consider this to be adequate to meet the needs of the vast majority of college students.

Finally, card issuers also cover their risk by fixing the interest rates on college credit cards a little higher than usual in an attempt to stop students from overspending on their cards and to persuade them to keep their spending within the amount which they can afford to pay off each month.

On the surface college credit cards may not appear terribly attractive to people who are accustomed to handling standard credit cards but in reality they can be a very useful tool for teaching young people to handle credit responsibly and carry the additional benefit of providing students with the ability to build up a good credit record, which will be very helpful after leaving college.

College is a very expensive time for many students and there are not many students who will make it through a college education without a mix of parental support, grants and scholarships, federal loans, private loans and working part-time. This is hard to manage and far too many students have problems dealing with this and end up having to refinance their loans, often through student loan consolidation. If we now add a credit card into the equation we might just be providing the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

Whether or not college credit cards are truly a good idea or just another marketing ploy by the credit card issuers is something which you will have to judge for yourself however, whatever your view, they are without question something you must be approached with your eyes wide open.

When you give your children a writing assignment, do they complain and whine about it? I had the same problem, until I discovered something last summer which made all the difference - when my children had a purpose for their writing, they were more willing to complete the assignments. Along the way, my kids learned the process of writing format through publishing.

A few years ago, all three of my children wrote books which are now available for purchase. My son worked for an entire year studying about the jungle and choosing just the right animal or plant to include in his ABC Jungle Book. After making these choices, he wrote a paragraph about each one, using a writing stylistic checklist.

Of course, he didn’t work on his book for eight hours a day, every day for a year. After all, he’s just a kid! The amazing thing is that he remained motivated all year long. Because of his efforts, he was able to complete his book at the beginning of June.

There were a couple of reasons for his motivation, which ultimately led to a successful book launch. To start, he was fascinated by the jungle and its creatures, so he was researching something that was already interesting to him. It rarely felt like work! He was also thrilled at the thought of becoming a published author, earning money by writing and publishing his own book. Having a purpose for writing is the key to motivation.

Other purposes for writing assignments may include sending a letter to a friend or relative, entering a writing contest, writing a letter to the newspaper editor, writing a summary of your science fair project, sharing a story about an event in your life, writing a ministry letter, or a myriad of other purposes. Do your children have a purpose for their writing?

Once your child has a purpose for writing, he needs to put his ideas down on paper in a thoughtful, cohesive manner. There are many writing programs on the market, but best source I have found to teach your child “how” to write is Excellence in Writing. This course deals with the “hows” of writing instead of “what” to write about.

You can give your child(ren) a great reason for writing when you use the process of writing format through publishing. Try to integrate writing into any subject you are studying with your child. Writing should never be treated as a separate topic, since it is a valuable skill that transcends the subject material. By encouraging your child to write on a range of topics, he (or she!) will understand the purpose that writing has in all aspects of life.

Next to lighting candles on Friday just before sunset, or singing Shalom Aleichem, the Kiddush cup is among the most common symbols of the Jewish Sabbath. The word Kiddush is derived from the Hebrew word Kedushah, which means holiness or separation. Reciting Kiddush marks the special nature of the Sabbath day.

In traditional Judaism, the Sabbath is considered to be set apart from the rest of the days of the week. The Torah commands “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.” Kiddush is a ceremony which marks the holiness of the Sabbath. The Talmud understands this to means that the holiness of the Sabbath must be stated verbally.

Reciting or singing it is considered a positive commandment or mitzvah. Men and women are obligated to recite it, though in a married household, the husband will recite it. While reciting it is the most important element, a custom from the early rabbinic period sees the act of sanctification as being tied to saying blessing for a glass of wine before the evening meal. The drinking of wine, in addition to some additional paragraphs makes up what is known as the Friday evening Kiddush.

According to the Talmud, Kiddush can be traced back to ancient times. Discussions dating from the first century of the Common Era on the subject of Kiddush make it clear that the ritual is ancient.

At the beginning of Sabbath two loaves of bread are laid down in memory of the double portion of manna that was gathered on Friday, with a white cloth under and over them. There is no true Kiddush except at the place of the meal. There is a custom however among some communities to pronounce Kiddush at the end of the evening service in the synagogue.

Although the Talmud states that strong drink other than wine is improper for the Kiddush, they often out of necessity, took the place of wine in many northeastern European Jewish communities. It is regarded as more appropriate to recite the Kiddush over the bread than to substitute beer or brandy if wine is not accessible.

It is customary to recite Genesis. 2: 1-3, the account of the Sabbath of Creation, before reciting Kiddush in keeping the Talmudic dictum that one who recites it makes himself, in a sense, a partner with God in the work of creation.

A kiddush cup is used in other ceremonies where drinking wine is part of the occasion or ritual. These includes Havdalah (the ceremony demarcating the end of the Sabbath from the coming week), as well as at weddings ceremonies, among others.

What parent doesn’t dread the whole back to school time of year? This annual gauntlet seems to be pure torture for all involved, from the parents vying for the best spot in the checkout line to the tired, whiny kids being dragged from store to store in search of the perfect notebook. That’s why more and more parents are opting to do their back to school shopping online these days!

The Real Cost of Back to School

There are several areas that you spend money on while doing the back to school shopping. A huge part of it is the actual supplies, but you may not realize all the hidden costs that really add up.

- Eating out. Most back to school shopping days take more than a few hours and you end up eating at a fast food joint, which can get expensive if you are buying kid?s meals for everyone. - Gas. With gas prices so high these days, it?s definitely a consideration and you waste more gas sitting in traffic and driving around parking lots than you do on the freeway. - Treats. Let?s face it, no one expects their kids to be perfect for hours of trudging through stores collecting all the school supplies, so little things like chocolate bars and toy cars tend to become part of the trip. - Extras. Maybe there?s a super sale on socks that you realize you could get . . . even though they aren’t on your list. Or maybe your toddler just screamed too loud and you ended up buying that Tonka dump truck . . . most shopping trips end with extra items in the cart. - Broken items. This doesn’t always happen, but when you have frustrated mothers and hyper kids . . . things happen. Especially in crowded stores. So you may end up paying for an item that your child accidentally knocked off a shelf and broke, adding to the cost of the day.

Add to this the amount of energy you waste running from store to store, chasing kids and trying to maintain some semblance of calm when the clerk ignores you for the millionth time and you have a true nightmare.

Shopping Online for School Supplies

All this tension, time and money can be eliminated with one simple tool . . . your computer. By shopping online for your school supplies, you?ll be able to buy when you have some free time, even after the kids are in bed! This eliminates the whining and fussing of hot, tired kids. You?ll also save quite a bit of money by doing your back to school shopping online, especially if you take a few minutes to join a rewards program or to look for coupon codes to bring the prices down a bit.

There’s no commute time or even any need to get dressed, if you don’t want to. The savings in time and money are huge when you opt to do your shopping online. And chances are you?ll find even better prices on retail websites than you would in the actual physical store! Once you’ve ordered your products and back to school supplies, you just need to sit back and relax, they?ll be delivered right to you and before school starts! It’s really the best way to do your back to school shopping, since it requires minimal effort and you get even better results. Not to mention, there?s no need to take the kids to the crowded mall and waste gas looking for a place to park!
